Children's privacy notice

This notice is deliberately short. It covers only the information about a child that you enter, and what happens to it.

Children do not use Tales By You directly

Tales By You accounts belong to adults. There is no child sign-up, no child login, and no way for a child to ask the service for a story. A child may read a finished book that you hand them, but everything that creates or changes a book happens through your adult account.

What you are asked to enter about a child

  • A first name or a nickname. A nickname is genuinely fine and we suggest it.
  • An age range rather than a birth date.
  • Interests, comfort items, or a pet's name, if you want the story to feel familiar.

We do not ask for a surname, address, school, birth date, photograph, or voice recording, and the builder does not have fields for them. Please do not put that information into free text boxes.

What we do with it

Child profile details are used to personalise the stories in your household and nothing else. They are visible only to adults in your household. They are not used for advertising, not used to train AI models, and not sold.

Where it goes during generation

To write and illustrate a story, the relevant details are sent to our AI and content-safety providers as part of the request. We send the minimum required, and free text you write is passed through as untrusted content rather than as instructions. Read the safety approach for the full sequence.

Your controls as the caregiver

  • Edit or delete a child profile at any time from Children.
  • Turn off sharing, downloads, and narration for your household from Privacy and sharing.
  • Export everything your household holds, including child profiles, as a file you keep.
  • Delete your account, which queues deletion of child profiles and stories from our database, our storage, and our providers.

If you believe a child created an account

Tell us through our contact page and we will close the account and delete what it holds. We do not require you to prove anything before we act on that.

A note on what this notice is not

We describe our practices honestly here, but we make no claim that this notice satisfies any particular children's privacy law in your jurisdiction. That determination requires a lawyer, and it is on our list of things that must be finished before launch.
