Content policy

• Any sexual content, and absolutely any sexualisation of a child.
• Graphic violence, gore, or cruelty presented as entertainment.
• Instructions or encouragement for self-harm, suicide, disordered eating, or substance use.
• Hateful content targeting people for who they are, including race, religion, disability, gender, or sexuality.
• Content designed to frighten or shame a child into compliance.
• Depictions of real, identifiable private individuals without their involvement.

Some subjects matter enormously to families and are still the wrong job for an automated story generator. When a request touches these, we stop and show you a page explaining why, along with resources from organisations that do this work properly. You can ask a human on our team to look at the request.

• The death of a parent, sibling, or caregiver, and grief more broadly.
• Abuse, neglect, or family violence.
• Self-harm, suicidal thoughts, or a child's mental health crisis.
• Serious illness, medical trauma, or hospitalisation.
• Divorce or separation framed as a child's fault.

We are aware this will frustrate some caregivers with entirely good intentions. A gentle story about a grandparent's death can be the right thing for a family, and it should be written by someone who knows that family, or by a professional, rather than by a model that has met neither.

Being nervous about a first day. Missing a parent who is away. Not wanting to share. Being scared of the dark. Moving house. A new sibling. These are the stories Tales By You is actually for, and we do not treat them as risky.

Anything you type is stored, checked for length and character content, screened for personal information, and then passed to the model as untrusted material inside a fenced block. It is never joined onto our system instructions, so text like "ignore your rules" is read as a phrase in a story request, not as a command.

• Your book allowance is not charged. A blocked story is always free.
• We record the decision as a code with the content redacted, so we can audit our own behaviour without keeping your family's words in a moderation queue.
• You can revise your request, or ask for a human review.
